“Paris knife attack: Suspect ‘born in Russia’s Chechnya’”:The suspect in a deadly knife attack in central Paris on Saturday night was born in 1997 in the Russian republic of Chechnya, a judicial source said.
The bomber killed a 29-year-old man and wounded four others in the bustling Opéra district before being shot dead by police.
The suspect shouted “Allahu Akbar” (God is the greatest), witnesses said.
The so-called Islamic State (IS) later said that one of its “soldiers” had carried out the attack.
Interior Minister Gérard Collomb said the victim of the attack was a 29-year-old but did not elaborate.
French President Emmanuel Macron tweeted (in French): “France once again paid with blood, but will not give an inch to the enemies of freedom.”

What do we know about the attacker?
The security forces have identified him, although he was not carrying identification papers and has not been officially appointed.
The source told the French press that the suspect had no criminal record and that his parents had been detained for questioning. Another source told Reuters the suspect was not known by the police.
He is believed to be a French citizen.
It is believed to be the first time a Chechen-born assailant has carried out a terrorist attack in France.
France is home to about 30,000 people of Chechen origin.
How did events unfold?
The assailant started wounding bystanders at 9:00 p.m., neighborhood time (19:00 GMT).
Witnesses depicted him as a young fellow with dark colored hair and a whiskers, wearing dark warm up pants.
The man tried to get into several bars and restaurants but was blocked by people inside.
Police first tried to stop the assailant with a stun gun before killing him, nine minutes after he started the attack.
“Paris knife attack: Suspect ‘born in Russia”:Jonathan, a waiter from a local restaurant, told AFP: “I saw him with a knife in his hand. He looked crazy.”
He said a woman who the attacker stabbed in ran into the bleeding restaurant. The assailant tried to follow her inside, but was away and finally ran away.
Two of the wounded in the attack are in serious condition, but have no serious injuries.
Later, the IS group said it was behind the attack, in a brief statement posted on its news agency.
How are the IS and Chechnya?
Chechnya is a republic in the northern Caucasus region of southern Russia.
The republic declared independence in 1991, but the Russian troops invaded in 1994 to annul it, provoking a conflict of a decade.

Jihadist groups, including those aligned with the EI, have long operated in the region.

The EI has actively recruited combatants in Chechnya, sending hundreds of people to conflict in Syria and elsewhere.
