How To Use iPhone Recovery Mode

Need to get into recovery mode on your Apple iPhone? Check out our guide.

How To Use iPhone Recovery Mode”: IPhone Recovery Mode (or iPad) is a last resort option to fix your device in some specific situations, for example, if the phone has become so shocking and unanswered that you cannot do it much.

Alternatively, Software Updates sometimes refuse to cooperate and you may need to start over from the first square to make some progress.

However, although it is not recommended to put your device in Recovery Mode as a first point of call, it pays to know how to do it in those situations where there are no other real options.

iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X Recovery Mode

The recovery mode of iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X is slightly different from previous models because Apple abandoned the Home physical key.

  1. If you left iTunes running on a computer, close it.
  2. Connect the USB plug of your Lightning cable to your computer.
  3. Connect the Lightning plug from your Lightning cable to your iPhone.
  4. On your phone, open iTunes.
  5. Press and release the Volume Up button on the phone, do the same with the Volume Down button, and then press and hold the side button until the Connect to iTunes screen appears.

iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus Recovery Mode

The iPhone 7 series still has a Home button, but it’s a Force Touch key instead of a physical clicker. As such, similar to the iPhone 8 and later, the iPhone 7 series uses the volume keys to control the Recovery Mode.

However, it operates somewhat differently from the iPhone 8 and above series.

  1. Open iTunes on your computer.
  2. Turn off your iPhone 7 by holding down the Power key for three seconds, and then slide the Power Off slider to the right.
  3. Press and hold the Volume Down key.
  4. Connect the iPhone to your computer.
  5. Release the Volume Down key when the Connect to iTunes screen appears.

  2. Turn off your iPhone, iPad, or iPod.
  3. Press and hold the Home button.
  4. Connect your iPhone, iPad or iPod to your computer.
