At The Center of Our Galaxy – There’s a Black Hole Party
The center of the Milky Way is a cornucopia of black holes – The Atlantic
“At The Center of Our Galaxy-There’s a Black Hole Party”: Astronomers have long predicted the presence of black holes in the center of the Milky Way, which they say may reach thousands and now scientists have found the first evidence of them.
Chuck Hailey of Columbia University has a photo pinned above his desk showing a bright orange and yellow spot – the glow of cosmic gas as it is devoured by the super massive black hole in the center of the galaxy. Stargazers have caught this shine utilizing X-beams, a flexible kind of radiation that regards see through galactic gas and also human bodies.
A portion of the X-beam discharges identified by stargazers originating from the galactic focus originate from this dark opening, known as Sagittarius A , yet not all. The rest comes from a population of other smaller black holes, grouped in the region.
Hailey and a team of Columbia-led scientists used archival data from the Chandra X-ray Observatory, a telescope that orbits Earth. Their findings were published in the journal Nature last Wednesday.
